Mrs Sandrine Salerno is Mayor of the City of Geneva. Besides being the Head of the Department of Finance and Housing, she is also in charge of the City of Geneva’s policies regarding sustainable development, diversity, equality and economic development. In addition, Mrs Salerno is responsible for the Human Resources and Procurement policies, and she represents the City’s government within the diplomatic and international circles in Geneva.
Born in 1971 to a French mother and an Italian father, she is the mother of two children. Elected to the executive body of the City of Geneva as a representative of the Socialist Party, she holds a Bachelor degree in Political Science and a Master in Public Administration from the University of Geneva.
Before being elected to the executive body of the City of Geneva, Sandrine Salerno worked as the Deputy Chief of the Europe–Third World Centre (CETIM), in the Human Rights Programme (1995-1997), a Coordinator at the Swiss-Immigrants Contact Centre (1997-2001), a researcher at the University of Geneva (2001-2006) and then as the Deputy Head in the unit of University Affairs at the Department of Education of the Canton of Geneva (2006-2007).
Mrs Salerno’s political career began when she became a member of the Town Council for the City of Geneva (1999-2007), where, among many other commitments, she was a member of the Financial Commission. At the same time, she was also Chairwoman of the City section of the Socialist Party in Geneva. It is in June 2007 that she was elected to the City’s executive Council.
Maire de la Ville de Genève, Madame Sandrine Salerno est à la tête du Département des finances et du logement. Elle est également en charge du développement durable, de la diversité, de l’égalité et de l’économie locale. Responsable des ressources humaines et de la politique des achats, elle représente la Ville auprès de la Genève internationale.
Née en 1971 d’une mère française et d’un père italien, elle a deux enfants. Membre du parti socialiste, elle possède un Baccalauréat en sciences politiques et un Master en administration publique de l’Université de Genève. Avant d’être élue à l’exécutif de la Ville de Genève, Madame Salerno a travaillé comme responsable adjointe du programme « Droits de l’Homme » au Centre Europe-Tiers Monde (CETIM) de 1995 à 1997, comme coordinatrice au Centre de contact Suisses-Immigrés (1997 – 2001), en tant que collaboratrice scientifique à l’Université de Genève (2001 – 2006) et comme adjointe aux affaires universitaires au Département de l’instruction publique (2006 – 2007).
Madame Salerno a commencé sa carrière politique au Conseil municipal de la Ville de Genève (1999-2007) où elle était entre autres membre de la Commission des finances. A la même époque, elle a présidé la section Ville du parti socialiste genevois. En juin 2007, elle est élue au Conseil administratif de la Ville de Genève.
