After 18 years of experience in the field of social work and as the Head of human resources in a large enterprise in Colombia, Rocio Restrepo and her family had to leave their country because of political circumstances.
With help from Amnesty International, she arrived in Switzerland in 1999. Her life then took a new turn.
Since her arrival, she has been confronted by multiple difficulties in her socio-professional integration process, such as a lack of knowledge of the local context and language, but also the non-recognition of her diplomas and professional experience. Rocio then decided to take up studies again. She studied psychology at the University of Geneva (UNIGE), as well as project management and coaching, with the aim of helping other qualified migrant women to overcome the obstacles they face in their social and professional integration process.
She has created the “Practical guide for job seeking qualified migrant women” that has been published in collaboration with the Geneva Bureau for Integration (BIE) and the Geneva Office for Guidance, Vocational Training and Permanent Education (OFPC).
Later on, combining her life experience, her competencies and her expertise, she founded Association découvrir, the objective of which is to facilitate the professional integration of qualified migrant women in Geneva and French-speaking Switzerland.
Après une expérience professionnelle de 18 ans dans le domaine social et en tant que chargée des ressources humaines dans une grande entreprise en Colombie, Rocio Restrepo et sa famille se sont vues contraintes de quitter leur pays d’origine à cause des circonstances politiques.
Avec l’aide d’Amnistie internationale, elle est arrivée en Suisse en 1999. Sa vie a alors pris un nouveau tournant.
Confrontée aux multiples difficultés d’intégration socio-professionnelle liées à la méconnaissance de la langue, du contexte mais également à la non-reconnaissance de ses diplômes et de son expérience professionnelle, elle a repris des études en psychologie à l’Université de Genève et s’est formée en gestion de projet et en coaching dans le but d’aider d’autres femmes migrantes qualifiées à surmonter les obstacles qu’elles rencontrent dans leur démarches d’intégration sociale et professionnelle.
Elle est ainsi à l’origine du «Guide pratique pour les femmes migrantes en recherche d’emploi» qui a été publié en collaboration avec le Bureau de l’intégration de Genève et l’Office pour l’orientation, la formation professionnelle et continue.
Par la suite, alliant son expérience de vie, ses compétences et son expertise, elle a fondé l’Association découvrir dont l’objectif est de faciliter l’intégration professionnelle des femmes migrantes qualifiées à Genève et en Suisse romande.
