Féminin Pluriel Amsterdam is delighted to invite you to a book launch of “The Art of Love” by arts broadcaster and Soho House curator Kate Bryan, taking place on the 22nd of May 2019 at The College Hotel.

Besides being Head of Collections for Soho House globally, Kate Bryan is a curator, art dealer, TV presenter and author. Her book “The Art of Love” is being published in June 2019, so Féminin Pluriel Amsterdam will get a special preview into the stories of the most fascinating couples of the art world, exploring the passionate, challenging and loving relationships behind some of the world’s greatest works of art.

THE ART OF LOVE profiles 34 artist couples over the past 150 years, revealing both the magical and dangerous effects that two artists in a romantic relationship can have on each other’s work. It considers the peculiarities of love between artists: the rivalries; the intense artistic collaborations between lovers; the suffocating nature of devoting a marriage to art and conversely the freedom of living a life entirely wrapped up in creativity. It also repositions artists over looked by their more famous and successful spouse. Designed to bring wider audiences to art history through the prism of great love stories, the book includes all new illustrations, reimagining the art of these lovers with a fresh, contemporary lens.

The book presents over 30 love stories featuring iconic artists such as Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Willem de Kooning, Yayoi Kusuma, Auguste Rodin, Marcel Duchamp, Georgia O’Keeffe as well as stories of artists in love that history has forgotten such as Maud Hunt Squire and Ethel Mars and short-lived, secret relationships such as the six crucial years that Jackson Pollock and Robert Rauschenberg spent together.

KATE BRYAN is an arts broadcaster and curator. She is Head of Collections for Soho House and Co globally.
