Painter, lawyer, on the board of Kofi Annan Foundation, honorary chair Geneva chapter of Burkina Faso Women’s Education Fund, this was not what Mrs. Annan had expected as she started her career as an associate judge in Sweden, but what she had to face as her life took unexpected turns. In today’s world, we will all, at some point, be facing the need to reinvent ourselves. In her role at the United Nations Secretary- General, Mrs. Annan embraced her destiny with passion and creativity. There would have been many different ways to be a professional, a mother, a spouse and a «First Lady of the World», as her friends called her. Mrs. Annan created her unique path, expressing her talent in her work as an artist and her engagement in favor of UN programs for girls’ education, women’s empowerment and AIDS. Mrs Annan will share with us her engagement for the Burkina Women’s Education Fund (BWEF) which helps lift young women in Burkina Faso out of poverty by financing their higher education—at university, at nursing school and in teacher training.
Peintre, avocate, membre du conseil d’administration de la Fondation Kofi Annan, présidente honoraire du Fonds pour l’éducation des femmes au Burkina Faso à Genève, ce n’était pas ce à quoi Madame Annan s’attendait lorsqu’elle a commencé sa carrière en Suède. Mais elle a accepté que sa vie prenne des tournants inattendus. Dans le monde actuel, nous serons tous, à un moment donné, confrontés à la nécessité de nous réinventer. En tant que secrétaire générale des Nations Unies, Madame Annan a embrassé son destin avec passion et créativité. Il y aurait eu différentes manières d’être une professionnelle, une mère, une épouse et la «Première Dame du monde», comme l’appelaient ses amis. Madame Annan a créé son parcours unique en exprimant son talent d’artiste et son engagement en faveur des programmes des Nations Unies pour l’éducation des filles, l’autonomisation des femmes et le sida. Madame Annan partagera avec nous son engagement pour le Fonds pour l’éducation des femmes au Burkina Faso (BWEF), qui aide les jeunes femmes du Burkina Faso à sortir de la pauvreté en finançant leurs études supérieures – à l’université, à l’école d’infirmières et á la formation des enseignants.
