Barbara Cassin Born from an illustrious family from Nice to the national destiny, Barbara CASSIN, does not fail in tradition by becoming the ninth woman entering the French Academy after being elected on May 3, 2018.
Born of a mother painter and a father jurist, she is a philologist and philosopher. Passionate about the thought of Heidegger, she will meet him at a seminar in 1969, at René CHAR, poet, his second passion with philosophy.
Director of research at the CNRS and numerous publications, she will notably work on the publication of a collective work: “European Vocabulary of Philosophies: Dictionary of the Untranslatables”. This work continues in 2016 with the exhibition of MUCEM “After Babel, translate”, of which she is curator.
She will receive many distinctions and awards, including the Grand Prix de philosophie of the Académie Française in 2012 and the CNRS Gold Medal in 2018.
She is the author of many books including the most recent “Quand dire, c’est vraiment faire” published in 2018 at Fayard
